Haunted?
11-19-11
Steve happened
to be driving by the Agua Mansa Cemetery one
Saturday afternoon when it was open, so he took the
opportunity to visit a place that's been on his long
term list for a very long time.
This
cemetery is open for very short hours only on
certain days, so you have to plan your time
carefully. There is also a museum at the cemetery,
but it was not open on this day. A lady who works
there said the person who runs the museum probably
thought it was going to rain so they didn't open it.
Another time, perhaps. There is also a private
residence that IS occupied (so don't try sneaking in
there at night, advice I would give anyway!) and the
cemetery is enclosed by tall chain link fences
topped by barbed wire. It almost make you feel
like they're trying to keep something IN the
cemetery, and in a way they are.
Over the years many of the gravesites have been
vandalized, disturbed, broken, headstones stolen,
and we find that absolutely shameful. There is no
reason for that sort of behavior, and all too often
paranormal groups get blamed for this sort of this,
and sometimes rightfully so. However most paranormal
groups, like ours, are respectful of gravesites and
the laws and rules that govern correct behavior and
access, and those that aren't do ghost hunt for
their jollies, high school kids and the like. This
is why we can not stress enough times nor loudly
enough to NOT BE A JERK and harm these places!
Steve had the opportunity to speak with a caretaker
at this cemetery and let her know that he is a ghost
hunter and he expressed his sorrow at the deplorable
conditions, all the vandalism, and express apologies
for the paranormal community as a whole.
Loved ones do still come here to visit even though
the last burial was in 1963, so please be
respectful!
